Urban Yoga Retreat in Friedrichshain, Berlin, Germany

Give yourself a “staycation”–a stay-at-home vacation–or a DIY yoga retreat in the middle of Berlin by combining a weekend workshop at a local Berlin yoga studio and the following places in Friedrichshain.

♥ A place to indulge

with delicious vegan ice cream made from cashews, agave syrup, and pure at Goodies Berlin

♥ A place to sit down and eat

at the delicious and vegan-friendly Sri Lankan restaurant Sigiriya, where I recommend getting anything with a sambole–a spicy salsa of sorts

or at the Die Garbe cafe run by a drug rehab association as a social integration project. The food here, however, is pretty basic German with baked potatoes, pasta, and soups for vegetarians.

♥ A place to be inspired

by dancers at the contemporary dance space Radialsystem V or just soak up the sun at their outdoor terrace right on the Spree River

♥ A casual cafe in the middle of nature

journaling in the middle of Volkspark Friedrichshain at the Schoenbrunn (beer!) garden / cafe

♥ A walk in nature

among the Märchenbrunnen–the fairy-tale fountains with 106 sculptures of Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and other fairy tale celebrities–in Volkspark Friedrichshain

If you live in Friedrichshain, what other recommendations do you have for a staycation in your part of town?

What else would you need to make an urban setting a calm retreat?

Tell me in the comments section, please.

xoxo,

Bettina

PS: If you live in Mitte, Kreuzberg, or Neukölln, I’ve already written urban yoga retreat guides for you–just click on the neighborhoods listed and you’ll be taken to my guides.  Soon enough I’ll be writing a staycation guide for Treptow.
